Capitalist Greed

A terminally ill 7-year-old is surrounded by family in a hospice in the Ozarks after FedEx Freight paid to have her whisked home from Houston by air ambulance.

The Memphis-based trucking company with offices in Harrison, Ark., footed an $11,000 transportation bill on less than 24 hours’ notice to help the family of Jada Harper.

Family friends reached out to FedEx because doctors at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center said a 10-hour drive home in an ambulance might kill her. She was in a coma, breathing with a ventilator and at the end of treatment for an inoperable brain tumor.

But of course FedEx only did this because they can write it off…

The donation didn’t fit within charitable guidelines, which favor helping organizations over individuals, but Pat Reed, executive vice president and CEO, and FedEx Freight CEO Doug Duncan, approved the company paying the bill.
